Biography:

Alexandra Cook was born in Moscow in 1971. She was always fascinated by the concept of other worlds, real and imaginary, separated from us by immense distance in both space and time. This lead to an interest in art, science fiction and fantasy, ancient cultures and space science.
Following a science career she graduated from Geographical Department of Moscow State University in 1994. For the next five years Alexandra has been working as a young scientist in the Laboratory of the Comparative Planetology in the Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry, Moscow. She had a number of publications in Russian and English and participated in conferences in Moscow and Houston. As a result of this work she defended a dissertation about dunes and channels of Mars. She also traveled Earth widely making use of her sketch books and camera.
Alexandra has been drawing and painting since childhood and eventually decided to pursue a painting career. She has been taking private drawing lessons in Russia and later, living in the USA, she attended a short course "From Amateur to Professional" by Susan Abbott (prominient American artist). Working in the planetary science gave Alexandra knowledge about landscapes on different planets as well as experience with software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Bryce, 3D Studio. All this is proving to be very useful for an artist.
In 2003 Alexandra with her husband and children settled in the East Midlands. Since then she has been participating in art exhibitions where she so far earned eight awards. At the same time she is very busy raising her twins who just started school.
One of Alexandra's works has been published in a Russian newspaper, several are in private collections in Russia, USA, UK and Switzerland. She is a member of Nottingham Society of Artists and Long Eaton and District Art Club.
