Biography:
| Originally from Los Angeles, CA, Sonia migrated to the East Coast to attend Gordon College where she graduated with a degree in Visual Arts. Since, she has worked professionally in theatre, building and painting sets for such organizations as The Florida Studio Theatre, ImprovBoston, The Lyric Stage of Boston, and The Civic Theatre of Allentown. Additionally she has worked in film industry managing the Had To Be Made Film Festival. During her “down time” she managed her own mural painting business where she designed and painted large-scale murals for children centers, businesses, and private residences. Currently, Sonia is working as a part time Artist-in-Residence for the Creative Center in New York City (thecreativecenter.org). This organization places artists in hospitals in order for them to bring artmaking directly to the besides of people in the hospital. Sonia has been placed at Beth Abraham Hospital (Bronx, NY) where she works with patients who face long-term rehabilitation due to spinal injuries, head trauma, strokes, and dementia. Her time is spent organizing group art sessions as well as meeting one-on-one with bedridden patients discussing and creating art. |
