| I believe all art should be well crafted, well composed and well educated. Therefore I believe the highest form of human art to be Classical Realism, because this form of art stresses educated observation, flawless method, and mathematical composition. Likewise, all art should appear beautiful to the human eye, or it is worthless. Therefore all art should utilize the ideas of the greatest artist of all time: God. He created Beauty. Thus no art can be beautiful unless it utilizes things that God created. An artist can find so much freedom in composing little puzzles of beautiful and interesting things. God created the puzzle pieces in such a way that each piece can fit onto any other piece. But it is the artist's responsibility to compose well the pieces, creatively constructing his own personal work of art. Every human can agree that a well painted portrait or figure composition has more potential beauty than some human-devised abstraction. Similarly, abstractionism is far too limiting. The abstract artist cannot paint anything he sees and knows, thus it becomes an alien: a thing that humans cannot naturally understand. He is bound to "style", and thus has very limited resources. He prefers not to copy the works of the Greatest Artist. How much less freedom there is in this! (One cannot compose puzzles of beauty using God's creations.) Overall, I hope you can follow this logic and conclude that Modern Abstract Art is anti-Beauty and Atheistic, and thus defeats the most basic purpose of all art: to please the eye. Ultimately, my goal in my art is to wake people from their superficial slumbers and reveal to them that God is real: there is an abundance of evidence for his existence in his creation, which is so beautifully and intelligently designed. Biography:
| I was born in South Africa, and became interested in art and started drawing from an early age. When I was 8 years old, shortly after arriving in America I tried to start a little business of selling animal drawings to the American kids for 25 cents each. Later, in high school I began the study of Human Anatomy and Classical Draftsmanship. Realistic and accurate figure drawing became my primary concern. At the same time I also started painting seriously, and studied the Flemish and Renaissance manners of oil painting. By the end of high school I was able to paint decent still-lives and Old Master copies, both of which I painted in layers (as opposed to modern technique). Immediately after high school I started attending Laguna College of Art and Design. But after about 4 months I lost interest because there was not enough competition and it was overall too easy. Thus I began taking private instruction from a local professional painter, considered a Master. I didn't really learn much apart from how to use a palette knife and how to keep the paint wet for months. After less than two months this Master told me to stop taking lessons from him because I could already paint too well, and I should start selling my paintings. So, feeling confident about my art, I went about building up a portfolio of paintings, while I was also attending college for music classes. I am now marketing my paintings, while I work towards my Bachelors Degree in Music Composition. I play the pipe organ. |
