Jessica Castellano Data’s ideas and inspirations are driven by nature, human emotion, and the study of life. Her paints are altered with uncommon mediums to create a textured appearance on a flat surface to help facilitate the translation of the spirit of these elements to the canvas. The intent of the finished product is to create pleasing color combinations that will keep the eye moving throughout the canvas, often rewarding the viewer with an unexpected result. It should be noted that each work will have a complex layer and color study done before she actually makes it to her canvas. The purpose of these works is to confront the viewer, challenging them to think not only about what the painting as a whole is saying, but what is being represented within the strokes. A few of the most influential artists, whose spirit can be seen in Jessica’s work include Joseph Albers, Arshile Gorky, Robert Rauchenburg, and Mark Rothko.
