My work reflects my experiences both externally and internally and I create in oil, casein, encaustic paint and collage. For me oils express the narrative and captures the energy within the story, or the depiction of everyday life, the luminescence of Casein paint conveys the life within the face of a portrait, and encaustic paint mixed with photos and assemblage is essential to me in relaying the expression of spirit and emotion. After being diagnosed with cancer last year my focus has taken on a new urgency and direction. History, both personal family and the larger human legacy, has drawn my attention. Creating has become tuned to preserving the every day life of those that preceded me, capturing a day in human history, or telling a story through the imagery of the land and human interaction. My work is indicative of my love of the human form and the form of the Northern California land, particularly the hills of the East Bay. I primarily work in oils and encaustic medium but also use acrylic when the subject matter needs to be addressed in mixed mediums and becomes more illustrative in nature as in the “A Day” series.
Biography: I live in the San Francisco Bay area and have been an artist and equestrian for most of my life. My work reflects my experiences both externally and internally and I tend to work in oils, casein and encaustic. I have studied costume and stage design, illustration and color theory but I am mostly self taught in the use of oils, casein and encaustic paint. I have recently branched into photography and mix my photographic images within some of my pieces through collage and digital manipulation. I exhibit in local bay area galleries in California.
