I’ve always been drawn to drawing people. I guess it’s just instinct that that would be the most intriguing subject for a person to draw. But I’ve never really wanted to draw or paint anything else. Even most artists would move away from portraits and draw landscapes or other objects occasionally. But I’ve never been interested in those things, just people. However, it doesn’t really seem like there’s a market for portraiture anymore. Cameras take care of that nowadays. So, where’s my place? I suppose it’s for this reason that I’ve become interested in other mediums such as photography and video as well as drawing and painting. Photography and video allow for capturing candid moments. I love genre paintings because they captured a single moment of daily living. I think they provide a much more accurate depiction of humanity than a posed portrait. They give a glimpse into what it’s like for a person to be alive, living on this earth. What we think about and our emotions. These abstract things are difficult to interpret with images. However, they can be seen in those instances when people are not aware that they are being seen. Not aware of themselves at all, they are just thinking or feeling, being.
