I tend to grapple with the painting or rendering of a subject until I get something down that I feel is representative of what I've learned formally, what I feel emotionally, and what I discover while I'm in the process. I find that unless I can somehow connect with the subject, if I can't get excited about it, it's impossible for me to represent it. To that end, mood, light, and color to varying degrees, drive my work.
