In the past year my artwork has been inspired by Modern Architecture. From the 'International Style' of the 1920s to today's contemporary, post-modern attitudes. My particular interest lies within the linear and geometric composistion, contrasting angles and areas of repetition. It is these principles which are exagerrated in my photography, drawings and paintings. I begin by taking photographs and using existing images to produce drawings and sketches. It is here, in the sketchbook where periods of intense creativity takes place, images are abstracted and manipulated and ideas are formulated and developed. After a lengthy period of investigation and development, I am ready to translate ideas from paper to canvas. The paintings tend to concentrate on the formal elements and composistion, while the charcoal drawings obtain their spontaneity and gestural mark making qualities.
