John Ashton's paintings are predominantly in oil, however his skill is wide and diverse, and he has a truly mesmerising talent of capturing the true essence of his subject. He is able to reflect the unique, haunting interpretation of light that enables the viewer to 'reach out and touch' the image.
Biography: When his first collection of swans and little egrets was exhibited they sold very quickly. These pictures were captured in the beautiful habitat of his beloved Avon Estuary where he lives in the South Hams in Devon. John has recently finished a triptych of staghounds inspired by a visit to a French kennels where he found a tumble of hounds sunbathing, snoozing, stretching, stirring and waking on a warm June morning. Ever expanding his range, John has just finished two pictures of icicles, glistening and sparkling in the sunshine (see the Originals gallery). However, soon he will be starting work on more hounds, this time the subjects will be a pack of harriers.
